COMPANY PROFILE
Having more than 20 years’ experience in the rail industry and many years as manager of a plant hire business, Alwyn Bishop identified a number of areas where the efficiency and quality of work contractors provided to the rail industry could improve significantly.
Unhappy with the direction the industry was headed, in 2011, Alwyn risked all to purchase his first Volvo L90 front-end loader, “unit 001” for his newly created business Loaders ‘R’ Us. Rather than follow the standard “hourly hire” contractor attitude of doing as little as possible to drag jobs out for “maximum profit”, Alwyn instead followed a path of increased communication and job efficiency. He quickly found that under this model he was getting more work than he and “unit 001” could complete by himself.
From these humble beginnings, Loaders ‘R’ Us has grown to employ more than 50 staff members with a modern office, machinery workshop and storage yard and now maintains a fleet of over 18 modern Volvo front-end loaders, 10 articulated dump trucks, 5 rigid tippers, 3 prime mover floats, 4 excavators, 2 water trucks and a skid steer!
Loaders ‘R’ Us Management continues Alwyn’s vision of improving job efficiency by thinking outside the box and providing solutions that reduce job redundancies and save clients’ money by completing jobs in a shorter time, and employing highly-skilled operators. This is a culture that is fostered throughout Loaders ‘R’ Us from the Spotters and Operators through to Management. Owning our own two prime mover floats, alongside a strong network of associates also enables Loaders ‘R’ Us to float our own machines and client’s machines across Queensland in a very short space of time if required.
From the beginning, Alwyn has believed staff are a key factor in improving efficiency and has maintained that two highly skilled and competent operators are worth four average operators. As the rail industry is Loaders ‘R’ Us’ focus, all of our operators are skilled and trained in rail specific techniques and terminology. We have a system in place where all potential operators start as spotters to get valuable ground level on-site experience to learn the flow, requirements and expectations of jobs before sitting in a machine on-site. When the time comes to operate on-site, newer operators are also mentored by senior operators to share experiences and overcome challenges.
Loaders ‘R’ Us employs a strict, random Drug and Alcohol testing regime to ensure a safe working environment for all staff, clients and the public.
